Torneskär is a small group of islands with a distinct Nordic feel. Its people have lived off of fishing since the first settlements on the islands. Not much clings to the weathered cliffs, smoothly polished by the glacial ice sheet covering Scandinavia thousands of years ago.
The capricious and unforgiving nature of the surrounding sea is a considerable facet of life on Torneskär. The sea being such a ruler of life and death has of course lead rise to rich folklore and superstition among the people living on the islands.
Torneskär was a popular destination for tourists during the late 19th and early 20th century because of the belief that the salty sea breeze was healthy and could cure everything from unhappiness to tuberculosis. Many open-air bath houses sprung up on the islands of Torneskär. Today, only one of them remain (that I have yet to build ahhaha).
Torneskär is definitely still a work in progress, but I invite you to try it out with the disclaimer that only the small one of the two main islands can be considered even close to done. This is my first every custom world and some of my first custom content (very simple overrides and conversions, mostly), but I have play tested this world a lot myself and haven't come across any issues yet. I ask that if you run into any issues, to please let me know, so I can trouble shoot and find a solution before I eventually release this world for everyone to download.
Torneskär is a large sized world that consists of two main islands, with smaller islands/islets scattered around them. Boats are not required for your sims to navigate the world, as the two main islands are connected by bridges and the smaller islands are decorative. There are no houseboat lots because I have never played with houseboats before and I read they can cause issues, but I may put houseboats in the world at some point. As such, Torneskär itself does not require you to have Island Paradise with its boats and houseboats installed. The exception would be some builds in my save file that require the build foundations that come with this expansion pack.
Torneskär uses custom content, which is unmerged and included in a custom content folder for download. I plan on making a comprehensive list of all custom content used. Some of the content can be considered more or less important for the world to function and look as intended, so with the list I hope you can make a decision yourself about what custom content to install. I just haven't gotten around to it quite yet. Expect this list to change as I continue to work on Torneskär. It uses some store content, included as package files in the custom content folder.
Most community lots, if you decide to download my builds, use custom content and store content. I've tried to stay away from custom content as much as possible and I plan on going through my builds before the actual release of my world to remove custom content I've used that I think the world can live without. I'm not there yet though, apologies for that.
As this world is still a work in progress, there are still many community lots left to build on (it's quite empty in that regard, still) and not every existing build is furnished yet. There are lots of empty lots for you to build your own though.

Specifically fences from Pets and University Life, bridges from World Adventures, tropical retaining wall from Island Paradise, and food trucks from Late Night. The world's flora gets replaced by the game if you're missing other expansion packs listed.
Objects you don't have will be replaced with something in the same category as the missing object, so you can download the save file still. If you don't have Island Paradise, some community lots might not look right though, as I use the foundations that come with this pack.
All store content used is included in the custom content folder as package files, converted by Blams. Pick and choose depending on what you have installed, independent of the format or source. Mostly uses Monte Vista, Midnight Hollow and Lucky Palms store world content, and some bits and pieces from sets.
Torneskär uses custom content.
Custom content consists of both defaults and non-defaults. It's not merged, so you can pick and choose what to install. I've therefore tried to put my custom content in either one of two categories, depending on what the world looked like when I loaded it without these files in my mods folder. Some of the content can be considered more or less important for the world to function and look as intended and I plan on making a comprehensive list eventually.
Most community lots, if you decide to download my builds and my save file, use custom content and store content. I've tried to stay away from custom content as much as possible and I plan on going through my builds before the actual release of my world to remove custom content I've used that I think the world can live without. If you choose not to download some content I've used, the game will just find another object from the catalog to put there.
You need a mods folder, with a resource.cfg file and a packages folder to install custom content for Torneskär. All package files go in the packages folder. You can find it under Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Mods > Packages as long as you have your mods folder properly set up.
Sims3Pack files go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Downloads and must be installed through the launcher for the content to show up in-game.
Here's a save file with all of my builds for Torneskär where they're meant to be.
As this world is still a work in progress, there are still many community lots left to build and not every existing build is furnished yet. They're yours now, so change them and furnish them however you want! There are lots of empty lots for you to build your own too.
